Terrier day was the day after the hottest day ever, yes that day, so not surprisingly exhibitors have reported that it was very hot and humid, with a couple of real downpours of rain to spice things up. Once again, our breed was forced to exhibit in an outdoor grass ring with the grass so long it came up to the dogs’ elbows. How they expect a judge to be able to look at movement who only knows. Just to add insult to injury apparently the ring was mown for the next day, when the German Shepherds were in it!

Anyway, on to the judging – CCs were on offer for the first time at this show, and it was Frances Chapman-King in the hot seat. She has been a regular spectator at the Norfolk ring for a number of years and shows a keen interest in the breed. She had an entry of 26 in total and only 4 absentees. Her choice for the Dog CC and BOB was Cathy Thompson-Morgan’s CH BELLEVILLE MAJOR KEY, his 7th this year. The Res CC went to the Junior Dog, Ruth Gee’s WATERCROFT TO COIN A PHRASE. This was his second Res CC this year and follows of course his great success in the Puppy Groups.

The Bitch CC went to BELLEVILLE BACK TO BLACK (not to be confused with Belleville In The Black who has been the recent winner for this kennel). BACK TO BLACK is by Ch Belleville Seduction out of Ch Allright Black Bess and was last “on the podium” back in January at Manchester. She beat CH WATERCROFT PINK FIZZ to the CC this time, with “Fizz” having to settle for the Res CC.

Ruth Gee’s WATERCROFT CALLING CARD is continuing to follow in his dad’s pawprints and took yet another Best Puppy, his third in a row. Patsy Green’s “Cromer” CH WHARFVALLEY DIAMOND STAR added another Best Veteran to his tally (5 so far this year), and we had yet another newcomer to welcome to the party in the shape of Mrs M Mitchell’s JAEVA WOLF WHISTLE who took Best Special Beginner. He is a 20 month old dog by Ch Jaeva Made In Gold out of Jaeva Penny Whistle). The Special Beginner Group competition at the Championship Shows is a real welcome addition to proceedings, giving new exhibitors (or seasoned exhibitors who have not yet managed to hold that precious green edged card) a chance to have a go in the Group ring, which is a great experience.
