At Darlington a week earlier on 16th September the breed was judged by Mrs Brenda Banbury where CH JAEVA GOLD AURIC again won the dog CC and Best of Breed but followed that with his second Group 1 win in the Terrier Group, judged by
Mr Luis Pinto Teixeira from Portugal. His ownership has temporarily changed into the names of Mrs B Phillips, Martin’s mother, and Andrew Gullick, who handles Woody. To repeat his breeding, he is by Jaeva Gold Leaf out of Rosara Voulezvous at Jaeva. Martin himself was judging another breed at Darlington. Mrs Banbury chose Cathy Thompson-Morgan’s young bitch BELLEVILLE NOTHING DOING for her first CC, sired by
Ger Ch Allright Northern Dancer, when he was on a visit to England last year, out of the 2003 Top Norfolk, Ch Belleville Sweet Nothings. RCC in dogs was the newly crowned CH ALLRIGHT SMART SIR BYRON (IMP) owned by Cathy Thompson-Morgan and in bitches a first RCC for Mrs C Blance & Miss Nicky Blance’s JAEVA ABOUT TIME AT PENLIATH (Fantastic Excalibur at Jaeva – Flash Dance to Havershams) who has won consistently in junior classes this year. Best Puppy was FOXHOUSE ON FIRE AT KINSRIDGE (Ch Kinsridge Free ‘N’ Easy out of Kinsridge Rock Chick at Foxhouse) who is in the joint ownership of Diane Jenkins, Richard Allen & Nick Connell.
Richmond was held at Loseley Park near Guildford on Sunday 11th September; it was so much easier to drive to on a Sunday with little traffic. Loseley is also famous for its wonderful ice-cream made from their herd of Jersey cows.
Subject to confirmation by the Kennel Club, the fourth Norfolk Terrier champion of the year ALLRIGHT SMART SIR BYRON (imp) was made up here by our judge,Mr Johan J Juslin from Finland. This dog continued his triumph of the previous week, winning Best of Breed as well; he has a truly international pedigree, being by an English sire, Ch Belleville Smart Alec, but his dam, Ger Ch Allright Chocolate Chip is by US-bred Am Ch Yarrow’s Henley out of Ger Ch Allright Coconut who also has Swedish bloodlines and goes back to other famous English breeding. His first CC was won in Scotland in May under Ellis Hulme. It was a good day for youngsters as Cathy Thompson-Morgan also bred and exhibited the Bitch CC & Best Puppy winner in BELLEVILLE PETTICOAT LANE at only her second show – she is homebred by Ch Belleville Magic Flute out of Ch Belleville Penny Lane; Cathy won the Dog RCC too with her Junior winner, BELLEVILLE THUNDER STRUCK who is byCh Allright Magic Trapper (imp) ex Ch Belleville Star Struck. Elisabeth Matell won a third RCC with her puppy bitch CRACKNOR COOKING UP A STORM.
At City of Birmingham at Stoneleigh this year there were no problems with noisy gratings, we were in a different ring, which was much appreciated by the exhibitors.Mrs Cherry Howard was the judge and had a very good entry of 69 with 14 absentees. Best of Breed and winning his 2nd CC was Cathy Thompson-Morgan’sALLRIGHT SMART SIR BYRON (imp), bred in Germany by Frauke Hinsch. He presented a lovely balanced picture as he sailed round the ring with a full length happily waving tail; he is by Ch Belleville Smart Alec out of Ger Ch Allright Chocolate Chip. There was a 4th CC following her Scottish triumph for CH HOBSON’S CHOICE AT MOORTOP with Mary Atkinson, details below in the next paragraph. The dog RCC went to CH JAEVA GOLD AURIC, who was immaculately presented, and the RCC in bitches and Best Puppy once again went to Elisabeth Matell’s highly promising CRACKNOR COOKING UP A STORM by
Ch Cracknor Cloak ‘N’ Dagger out of Cracknor Cooking The Books
28th August to Scotland. This is the last time that the Scottish Kennel Club will have CCs for Norfolks, but a Norfolk Terrier specialist, Mrs Marilyn Claydon, was scheduled to award CCs for the first time, so she drew a good entry of 27 (4 absent) for this distant venue. Rita Mitchell was rewarded for her long journey by winning Best of Breed and his second CC with OFF THE CUFF BY RICHELL. He is a son of Jaeva Duty Free and Richell Designer Label, who was at the time in joint ownership with Martin Phillips, but he is mostly of Richell breeding. Congratulations to Mary Atkinson whose bitch, HOBSON’S CHOICE AT MOORTOP, gained her crowning third CC. She is also sired by Jaeva Duty Free but out of Didjim Flycatcher who is now owned by a close friend, Mrs Ferrand, but the dam was bred by Mary’s daughter, Dale. She had won her previous CCs under Ellis Hulme at Scotland in May and recently at Bournemouth under Peter Bakewell. The Atkinson family have been breeding for many years, Mary started to breed drop-eared Norwich in the 1960s before separation and the record-breaking Ch Colonsay Orderly Dog was actually bred by her.
Her daughter, Dale, has carried on the family tradition with her Didjim affix, but the Moortop affix is present in many pedigrees. RCC in dogs went to Cathy Thompson-Morgan’s BELLEVILLE THUNDER STRUCK, and the Bitch RCC and Best Puppy to Elisabeth Matell’s CRACKNOR COOKING UP A STORM.
Terrier Day at The Welsh Kennel Club held at Builth Wells, was on 21st August, where the judge was Mrs Edwina Hart. Her choice for Best of Breed and winning his first CC was Cathy Thompson-Morgan’s young dog BELLEVILLE THUNDER STRUCK from the Junior Class, he is by the German imported dog, Ch Allright Magic Trapper out of Ch Belleville Star Struck. The first of the August championship shows started with Bournemouth, Terrier Day was Sunday 14th August, where Mr Peter Bakewell was awarding the CCs. His choice once again was for Martin Phillips and Andrew Gullick’s CH JAEVA GOLD AURIC who continued his winning ways with the DCC & BoB, shown by Andrew. In bitches, a long journey from West Yorkshire resulted in a second CC for Mary Atkinson and HOBSON’S CHOICE AT MOORTOP (by Jaeva Duty Free out of Didjim Fly Catcher); this bitch had been Best of Breed at Leeds Ch Show at the end of July where unfortunately Norfolks no longer have CCs. Rita Mitchell had a good day as OFF THE CUFF AT RICHELL, 2nd in Open Dog, won the RCC and she won Best Puppy with her young dog RICHELL CONTRABAND and another class with Richell Kinky Boots. Mrs Ann Burdon was the judge here, and once again CH JAEVA GOLD AURIC came out as top dog, winning the DCC and Best of Breed, he is jointly owned by Martin Phillips and Andrew Gullick. This gives him in total 10 CCs and 8 BoBs up to the end of July, 7 CCs & 5 BoBs won this year, plus G1, G2 and 2xG3 Terrier Group placings. In a repeat of the previous week,KINSRIDGE CRUISE CONTROL was 2nd in Open and RCC. He is in the joint ownership of Diane Jenkins, Richard Allen & Neil Dams. Paignton was held in the middle of the week on Thursday 14th July, and judging Norfolks for the first time was Mr Bryn Cadogan in hot sunshine, but mercifully with a slight cooling breeze from the sea. Norfolks were third in the ring at about 2.00pm, but finished in plenty of time for the group. He drew an entry of 39 and chose for his Best of Breed the Dog CC winner CH JAEVA GOLD AURIC, the leading dog at the half-way point, owned by Andrew Gullick and bred by Martin Phillips (Jaeva Gold Leaf – Rosara Voulezvous at Jaeva.) Second to him in the Open class and RCC was KINSRIDGE CRUISE CONTROL with Diane Jenkins. In bitches, it was the turn again of recently crowned CH BELLEVILLE ANOTHER SMARTI, (Ch Brickin Get Smart – Belleville Born To Dance) owned by Cathy Thompson-Morgan, with RCC and BP going to FOXHOUSE FIREDANCER from Limit, owned and bred by Maureen McPhee and a litter sister to Foxhouse on Fire at Kinsridge who won the bitch puppy class today; they are by Ch Kinsridge Free ‘N’ Easy – Kinsridge Rock Chick at Foxhouse.
Windsor on Sunday 3rd July, now with CCs restored and another first-timer judge for Norfolks in Mr Jeff Luscott, drew an entry of 59; rather uncertain weather with overcast skies, some exhibitors stayed outside squashed in the rather small grooming area some distance from the ring, while others opted for the indoor benches; this proved to be a wise decision as the rain duly arrived when puppy bitch was being judged, and there was a rush for the wet weather ring. The wonderful exhibitors picnic was held there after the judging organised by Elisabeth Matell, but no one had more reason to celebrate than Rita Mitchell; with OFF THE CUFF BY RICHELL they triumphed in a strong Open Dog class, he then won his first CC and went on to become Best of Breed. ‘Harry’ is by Jaeva Duty Free, a Ch Richell Claret son out of Richell Designer Label. RCC and 2nd in Open was Margaret Ruffles and CH RUFFNOR SECRET TIPPLE. Four days earlier, Three Counties, held at Malvern on Wed 15 June, was a 9am start for Norfolk exhibitors, the show committee having discovered that if they start at that hour people are less likely to be tied up in motorway gridlocks in the rush hour. It was pouring with rain making the journey very hazardous with spray from heavy lorries, and unpacking, loading then dragging dripping dog-laden trolleys from a distant field was not very pleasant. Our judge was Mr Brian Baxter and he had a large in-or-out ring to work in, these new tents are excellent as we could watch the rain teeming down outside from our dry vantage point; he had a good entry of 55 with not many absentees.
His choice for Best of Breed and the DCC was Martin Phillips and Andrew Gullick with CH JAEVA GOLD AURIC, RCC KINSRIDGE CRUISE CONTROL, owned by Dianne Jenkins, Richard Allen and Neil Dams. Martin Phillips was delighted to make up the second champion of the year in JAEVA MAID TO ORDER, a red bitch by Eng/Swed/Dan Ch Jiffy The Sky’s The Limit out of Jaeva Point of Order. Her previous CCs were won at in May at The National from Patsy Hollings and last December at LKA under Max King. RCC was Mary Atkinson’sHOBSONS CHOICE AT MOORTOP. Best Puppy may have been only reserve in Limit Bitch, but against her contemporaries she proved unbeatable, KINSRIDGE SUNFLOWER was not only Best Puppy in the Breed but went on to win the Terrier Puppy Group - Judge Mr R Platt; she is in the joint ownership of Diane Jenkins and Richard Allen.
Southern Counties on Friday 3rd June was a day of lowering clouds with rain threatening. Norfolks were third in the ring, but Mr Bill Browne-Cole who was judging the breed for the first time, wasted no time at all, and finished before the weather broke with downpours of rain. It was a good day for Diane Jenkins, as his choice for Best of Breed was KINSRIDGE CRUISE CONTROL who gained his second CC - he is in the joint ownership with Richard Allen & Neil Dams, his sire Ch Kinsridge Free ‘N’ Easy, dam Ch Kinsridge Wild Child. Congratulations to Cathy Thompson-Morgan who made up the first champion of the year with BELLEVILLE ANOTHER SMARTI who won her 3rd qualifying bitch CC. A first CC for a new bitch, HOBSONS CHOICE AT MOORTOP, bred by Mrs Ferrand but owned and shown by Mrs Mary Atkinson, one of our original Norfolk breeders. She actually bred the longtime CC record holder, Ch Colonsay Orderley Dog, although Miss Macfie registered him in her affix. Her bitch is by Jaeva Duty Free – Didjim Flycatcher, a Ch Belleville Cloudvoyager daughter. The reserve bitch CC went to Cathy Thompson-Morgan’s BELLEVILLE ANOTHER SMARTI, a sister to Ch B Smart Alec.
Best puppy was FOXHOUSE ON FIRE AT KINSRIDGE, who did so well at The National.
The National is now held at Stafford County Showground, and Norfolks were judged on Sunday 8th May by Mrs Patsy Hollings. CH JAEVA GOLD AURIC, back in the joint ownership of breeder, Martin Phillips and Andrew Gullick, won the Dog CC, his 6th such award and he also won the Champions Stakes on the same day. His kennel mate, however, Martin’s bitch JAEVA MAID TO MEASURE was judged Best of Breed having won her second CC; she is by imported black & tan dog Eng/Swe/Dan Ch Jiffy The Sky’s The Limit – Jaeva Point of Order.
