Aaah Bournemouth: sandy beaches and summer sunshine at the seaside – so come on, who forgot to order the good weather this year? There is a great photo on FaceBook of Mary Atkinson and Jackie Phillips huddling under a huge umbrella, with their dogs peeping out of from under their crate covers - sort of sums it all up really. Hopefully though the poor weather didn’t spoil the day for the exhibitors.
It was great to see Norfolks featuring yet again in the group placings; for the second week in a row, Ruth Gee’s WATERCROFT CALLING CARD was up there, this time getting Puppy Group 2 and it was great to see the Nash family placing with their lovely little bitch TIGGY OF HOUSE NASH in the Special Beginners Group, going Group 3. It is great to be able to report on group placings with such great regularity, a real coup for our numerically small breed.
Turning to the breed judging, Alan Small pretty much followed the pattern for this year, with just a bit of swapping around from last week’s top spots. He chose Cathy Thompson-Morgan’s CH BELLEVILLE MAJOR KEY for his Dog CC winner (his fourth show in a row) and BOB. Jackie Phillips’ very nearly got that elusive third ticket for BLAKENS LOOK THE PART (by Ch Blakens I Look To You out of Ch Blakens Sugar Candy Kisses) but he had to settle for the Res Dog CC in the end. He is due to return to his Finnish owners later this year, so let’s hope he manages to get that ticket before he goes. In a reverse of last week’s results, Ruth Gee’s CH WATERCROFT PINK FIZZ was Alan’s choice for the Bitch CC with BELVILLE BACK TO BLACK getting the Res Bitch CC.
As already mentioned, WATERCROFT CALLING CARD “Abel” took Best Puppy for the fifth show in a row, and went on to Puppy Group 2. He certainly is leaving his calling card this year!
The Best Special Beginner on this occasion was TIGGY OF HOUSE NASH – she is a two year old black and tan bitch, bred by Mrs Everatt, and is by Calydene Zebedee out of Silverlily Sun Worshipper. The Nash family have only really been showing this year and are having a great time with “Tiggy” and their other Norfolk “Ralph” who is also a black and tan of the same breeding but from a different litter. Great to see new faces doing well!
