Former Club President and breed specialist, Eileen Needham, had an entry of 60 (30 dogs and 30 bitches) for this show, and 45 of them actually made their way to the County Showground at Stafford on what was a very cold and rainy day, with the first snow flurries of the year.
The timing of the breed judging (second in after the Bedlingtons) and the location of the ring made it a frustrating occasion for some trying to juggle breed and Stakes classes, unsuccessfully in most cases.
No cut and paste of previous Show Scene reports on this occasion as it was new names for the top spots! The largest class of the day, Limit Dog, produced both the top Dog placings. Mary Atkinson’s three year old CHARLIE BLAKE AT MOORTOP took the CC and went on to be awarded BOB. He is by Blakens Sugar Candy Dips out of Sheltrice Blakeys Molly (how nice to see Pat Wilson’s affix in print once again!) The Reserve CC, his first, went to another Blakens son, UMBRAGE COPACABANA. He is homebred by Andre Hess and John Higgins and is by Ch Blakens Payback out of Umbrage The Gloriana (named after one of the Thames flotilla barges in the Golden Jubilee celebrations in case you were wondering).
It was a day for the youngsters in the Bitch classes; having taken a couple of Best Puppy spots earlier in the year, Di Jenkins’ KINSRIDGE CHITCHAT (Kinsridge Back Chat x Kinsridge Shabby Chic) gained her first CC from the Junior Class and the Res CC and Best Puppy went to Karen Hurrion’s VILLASSA ALL ABOUT ME, a Villassa Jack Be Quick daughter out of Villassa All By Design.
