Show Scene 2008: Border Union.

The committee and the members of the club were deeply saddened to learn of the sudden death of Pam Harris on May 6th;  she had only just been elected to serve on the committee at the AGM, but had been helping behind the scenes for several years, and will be very much missed.  She enjoyed showing her young dog, Melas Matchmaker at recent Club Shows and she also had a great interest in Springer Spaniels. Pam was a member of the Kennel Club for many years too, so her background knowledge would have been of great value to us all.   We send our deep sympathy to her husband and family. A tribute from her friend Helena Jupp can be found in News from the Club

THE 4th NORFOLK TERRIER CHAMPION OF THE YEAR
The Jaeva team did the double at Three Counties when judge Zena Thorn-Andrews presented the dog CC to JAEVA HOLY MOSES – he is bred by Martin Phillips but now in joint ownership of his mother, Mrs Beatrice Phillips, and Andrew Gullick who handled him to all his successes last year at Paignton and Wales.  But they had to give way to the Bitch CC winner in CH JAEVA FALLEN ANGEL for Best of Breed; she is owned by Mrs Phillips and Mrs Kate Tate, but handled by her breeder, Martin Phillips.

TWO ENGLISH BITCHES WIN THEIR TITLES
At The National Show, a first ever champion was made up by owner Jackie Phillips and breeder Jane Devereux when VICHEA PICK AND MIX won her third qualifying challenge certificate with Best of Breed, a great celebration for the three of them, following previous triumphs at the Jubilee NTC of GB Ch show and LKA last year.
A week later in Scotland JAEVA FALLEN ANGEL gained her crown, her CCs all won this year at Crufts and National Terrier, she is bred by Jackie’s brother Martin Phillips but owned by their mother, Mrs Beatrice Phillips and Mrs Kate Tate. Go to Show Scene 2008.

AMERICAN CHAMPION DOG WINS HIS ENGLISH TITLE
At WELKS, under specialist judge Mr Bryan Claydon, much travelled AM CH CAUSE FOR CELEBRATION lived up to his name by winning his third CC with Best of Breed and followed up by being placed 2nd in the Terrier Group.  His joint owners Pam Beale, Stephanie Ingram and Elisabeth Matell watched Peter Green handle him in the ring to this unique success; born in the USA, he has an international pedigree, a son of the famous Coco, English bred Ch/Am Ch Cracknor Cause Celebre, by the German export Am Ch Red Cherubim’s Summer Star, who was himself a son of a World champion.

Terriers were one of the last groups to be judged at Crufts this year on 9th March, and the final day on Sunday is particularly crowded, but the 8.30 in the morning start was quite testing for both exhibitors and supporters alike who had come to watch from all over the world.   There were 95 entries of Norfolks for Mr Brian Baxter to judge, he chose the winner of the Dog CC as Best of Breed CH BELLEVILLE RUMOUR NOTHING who is owned and bred by Mrs Cathy Thompson-Morgan; she also won the Reserve Bitch CC with CH BELLEVILLE SWEETHEART and Best Puppy with her young dog, BELLEVILLE PREMONITION.
Mrs Beatrice Phillips and Mrs Kate Tate owned the Bitch CC winner, JAEVA FALLEN ANGEL, winning her first such award, this bitch who won from the Junior Class was bred by Martin Phillips. The Reserve Dog CC went to Mary Atkinson's homebred MOORTOP HOT ROLL.

New: Norfolk Terrier Judges 2008 at General Championship Shows in Forthcoming Events

The Joy Taylor Memorial Lecture will take place on  March 15th 2008. Please look at News from the Club for a notice about this lecture.  Details of the venue and time are in Forthcoming Events.

News from the Club: With the banning of docking of dogs' tails, (except in certain circumstances), the Standard for the breed will be changed. At present the suggestion is the addition of the word 'previously' and (a) and (b) reversed as below.
Tail
Docking of tail previously optional.
(a) Tail of moderate length to give a general balance to the dog, thick at the root and tapering towards the tip, as straight as possible, carried jauntily, but not excessively gay.
(b) Medium docked, set level with topline and carried erect.
