To be invited by the Club to judge our Junior Handlers really made my day, thank you. It’s a big responsibility and most enjoyable.

Thanks are also due in a large part to Gina Dorkins, that the Club continues to show a positive interest in our Juniors. Junior Handling is now a fully integrated and popular part of our Club Shows and Events. Thanks Gina.

 

Class A – Junior Handling 6 - 11 years

1st Chloe Horne, Handling her bitch ‘Looby Loo’, was the only entry so got my undivided attention and a 1st place. I would have liked to hear you encourage your dog and giving her clear commands, ‘walk’, ‘turn’, ‘stand’ for example. Try to keep your dog’s lead straight up and down, this should ensure the dog is close to your legs at all times. Remember it is important to keep one eye on your dog and the other on the judge and always be sure not to break the handlers ‘Golden Rule’. Well done Chloe, keep working at it. Your first prize was well deserved.

 

Class B – Junior Handling 12 - 16 years

Both Handlers were very well presented and had clearly spent some time preparing themselves and their charges.

1st Kristian Hitchen, Very confident and moved his dog at a sensible pace and under control. Remember to be prepared for the unexpected. Your ‘homework’ should include, table presentation, naming the points of the dog, shadowing and let’s hear you encouraging your dog. Best Junior Handler. Well Done.

2nd Emily Dale, Another promising Handler who knew how to get the best from her dog. Plenty of room for improvement but I’m sure she has all the potential to make a top Handler. Your ‘homework’ is the same as the winners. Try to stay calm and don’t rush, the Judge will wait for you. Remember practice, practice, practice. You gave the winner a scare; it really was a close decision. I shall be keeping an eye on your progress.
